May 25th was our first day of classes, and my first class up was something called ENGLCOM, I suddenly thought to myself, that this class has got to be one of the most mundane class that I'm ever going to take, plus the fact that I have 2 ENGLCOM classes. So I said to myself, if I was going to have this class 4 times a week, I have to make sure that after the term I could write and speak English fluently. Since I like the subject, since I was in high school, I though the class was just gonna be a hell of piece of cake, things turned a 180 degrees, that first day. Our teacher was in fact very strict and it doesn't help that he doesn't allow talking. Suddenly I started dreading the class, I couldn't even wait for the class to be over, even the entrance essay he asked as to write put pressure on my shoulders that day.
That was how I'd always look back at my first few meetings in ENGLCOM. Truth be told, it was indeed a very interesting class. I had fun writing about various topics. It was also very challenging to write about things that I haven't even experienced my entire life, such as love and relationships. Now as I look back at those days, I can't help but smile, for now I remember how good it felt to write, to write what you feel, what you want to say. It brings me to the reason why I took up the course, and why I'm so engross with it all. As i try to remember whatever goal I set for the class, all that comes to my mind, was the fact that I wanted it to be a fun and memorable on, well kudos to that, for I was definitely able to meet that.
I'll always look back to my ENGLCOM days, in which I was able to gain new ways of writing, at the same time new friends while doing so. Now I look to the future, in which I know I'll be setting new goals for the next term, though ENGLCOM won't be part of my weekly habit, I know that it will be with me, in spirit for the rest of my life. For without it I might have forgotten the beauty of putting your thoughts into words.
Now a days, we rarely see anything new on Philippine TV, if it’s not a Korean drama remake it may be a Spanish telenovela adaptation. With these kinds of productions and dramas dominating prime time TV, one can only ask, what has happend to our directors and where did all the creativity go? If you look at it from a different perspective, these remakes and adaptations showcase our directors talented and artistic way of recreating these hit series and recreating them in their own way, however due to the drama’s past success, it limits the directors and production team into recreating these drama the way they may want to.
Looking in the artistic point of view, these remakes and adaptations further challenge our directors into recreating these series’ and making them into their own. It just so happens that due to the viewer expectations, the directors really can’t do much with changing plot lines and character addendum, Likewise these remakes not only show our creativity as citizens , but the over-all creativity of our nation and culture. It just so happens that there are some dramas , that when adapted, comes the limitation of incorporating the culture of the drama’s origins. This is very evident with Asian dramas that are remade. Lastly, these remakes are a manifestation of how aggressive our directors are for they have learned to step up to the challenge of recreating these dramas despite all the limitations and the pressure that rests on their shoulders. All in all, these drama remakes may not show originality, after all they are remakes, however it is how they are recreated and adapted into the director’s perspective that truly shows how artistic they are.I guess that's why I would have to take my stand
, when I speak for them and for myself, that remakes are not made just because our artists have run out of their own original ideas, they recreated and re shown to the world to remind us of how wonderful they were and to further inspire us,the generation of today, to create such worthy works as they are.
- Natasha Bedingfield, A little too much
They say young love or puppy love falls under one’s most significant and cherished moment in high school, sometimes
even in one’s entire life. From that tingling feeling felt to the squirms done, one would often take this as an intoxicating feeling. However young love isn’t just about feelings and emotions, it’s also about exploring uncharted territory. This is a phase in a teenager’s life in which the fundamental learnings about relationships are laid down. This is where young ones learn to experiment, to try new things; the stage of the “firsts”. From the first date, to the first time you held hands and of course, who would forget the first time you kissed. It is definitely something one can’t easily forget. Likewise along with the blissful feeling of young love is one’s first encounter with heartache. They say, among all the heartaches and sufferings in life, the first one is usually the hardest just as how Sheryl Crow once sang it; “The first cut is the deepest”. Never the less, it is also from this first heartache that one learns to stand up stronger, wiser and better than before. Rising up from it gives one a sense of fulfillment and triumph. Young Love is a very perplexing and puzzling phase, and is quite hard to define especially if teen angst and raging hormones get in the way. Young love isn’t just about that jittery feeling, it isn’t about the first date or meeting, or first kiss. It’s simply about one’s courage to take a risk despite all the uncertainties and ambiguities surrounding the future. Its about trying new things and taking a jump, getting ready for the fall and standing up again, stronger, wiser and better than before.
comes to adolescence love since during these times there are a lot of distractions for the couple, such as responsibilities in school, to their family and friends. While on the other hand, from another perspective, young love may seem to be more difficult to handle, especially when both of the people involved in the relationship are both new to the idea of it. This would entail a lot of experimentation when it comes to the relationship. On the other hand, when it come to adolescence love, knowing the essentials about being in a relationship wont be a problem, since there’s a probability that both parties involved has had experience when it come to being in a relationship. In young love however since it is still young and innocent, the love that they feel for each other is pure, therefore its easier to handle the relationship. Looking at the odds, I guess one would say that both of them have their own share of misfits, that make handling them very complicated. One can truly find out the answer, when the answer looks you directly in the eye. For short, we never can tell, not unless we have experienced it for real.
Looking at how love is, truth be told, the whole idea of love scares me. This is coming from a young individual who has no experience with relationships, just pure friendship. And from what I see, how movies, songs and even people perceive love, its a wonderful feeling, but to have that wonderful feeling, you would have to venture into uncharted territory first, and that is what ultimately scares me, uncertainty.
A friend once told me, what is life without risks, and I guess in life that is what we learn gradually. I don't when I'll truly open myself to the vulnerability of falling, all I know is right know I'm still learning, and if it come that time that it's there, outside my door, knocking, I know I won't be ready yet. but maybe, I'll be ready to take a risk and maybe, just a the song goes, " Love a just a little too much."
